Why Have a Private Health Check?

Regular health checks are one of the most effective ways to maintain good health and catch potential problems before they become serious.

Many serious health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, can develop without obvious symptoms. A comprehensive health check allows us to assess your current health status, identify risk factors, and provide personalised advice for maintaining optimal health.

At Lambert Medical Practice, our health checks are thorough, unhurried, and tailored to your individual needs, age, and lifestyle factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend annual health checks for most adults over 40. Younger adults may benefit from checks every 2-3 years, or more frequently if there are specific health concerns or family history of certain conditions.

For accurate cholesterol and glucose readings, we recommend fasting for 8-12 hours before your appointment. You can drink water during this time. We'll confirm specific requirements when you book.

Most blood test results are available within 2-3 working days. We'll contact you to arrange a results consultation, or include one in your package where specified.

What Does a Private Health Check Include That an NHS MOT Doesn't?

NHS health checks — available to adults aged 40–74 every five years — cover a useful but limited set of assessments: BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and a cardiovascular risk score. They are population-level screening tools designed to identify people at risk of the most common conditions.

A private health check at Lambert Medical Practice goes considerably further. Our panels include a full blood count (detecting anaemia, infection, blood disorders), full liver function, kidney function with eGFR, thyroid function (often missed entirely by NHS health checks), full hormonal assessment including testosterone, oestradiol, and DHEA-S, inflammatory markers (hsCRP and ESR), vitamin D and B12 status, ferritin and iron studies, and a full lipid profile with LDL, HDL, triglycerides and non-HDL cholesterol. The result is a genuinely comprehensive picture of your metabolic, hormonal, and haematological health — not just your cardiovascular risk.

What Conditions Can a Health Check Detect?

Many serious conditions develop silently for years before producing symptoms. A comprehensive private health check can identify early markers of type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), vitamin and mineral deficiencies causing fatigue, anaemia, and bone loss, early chronic kidney disease, liver dysfunction including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hormonal imbalances affecting energy, weight, mood, and libido, and elevated inflammatory markers suggesting immune dysfunction or early cardiovascular risk.

Early identification creates the window for intervention — whether dietary, lifestyle, or pharmacological — before these conditions progress to the point of causing significant harm.

How Often Should You Have a Private Health Check?

For adults with no known medical conditions, an annual or biennial health check is a sensible investment. For patients managing chronic conditions, monitoring hormonal therapies such as HRT or TRT, or who have a significant family history of cardiovascular disease, cancer, or metabolic disease, more frequent monitoring — typically every 6–12 months — is clinically appropriate. Our GP will advise on the right frequency for your individual circumstances at the conclusion of your health check appointment.

Recommended for adults 40+ or with family history risk
